Plex Code of Conduct

Welcome to Plex! We’re happy you’re here and we want you to be able to share your thoughts, opinions, and reactions in a safe and civil environment. This Code of Conduct and Community Guidelines apply to all user generated content (UGC) on our service including: reviews, comments, shares, discussions, lists, and your Plex profile. Participation is also subject to our Terms of Service, which you can view here.

Plex reserves the right to take moderation action against any activity or account that violates our Code of Conduct, such as rejecting a review or suspending an account. See Removals and Appeals at the bottom if you feel you were wrongly moderated.

Community Guidelines

  • Don’t be a jerk. Harassing, threatening, doxing, or bullying won’t be tolerated on Plex.
  • Keep it spoiler-free. We’re all media-lovers here, so use spoiler tags when discussing key moments, twists, or plot details.
  • No trolling. Spam, rage-baiting, speculative posts, or false spoilers don’t belong here.
  • Be open to different opinions. We’re a global community, and movies and shows can mean something different to everyone.
  • Be respectful, be nice, be cool, and be kind. Help us make Plex a welcoming place for movie and TV lovers everywhere.

Reporting Violations

While Plex uses a combination of an automated system and human moderators to review all content posted on our platform, individuals may also report content they feel violates these rules and they will be reviewed by our moderation team. As a Plex user you can help curate the experience for yourself and other community members. See a problem? Report it.

Additionally, whether you have reported content or not, you can mute or block users (learn more) and turn off notifications for activities you’ve created or participated in (learn more).

The Dos and Don’ts For Interacting on Plex

Hate

  • DO NOT post anything that harasses, intimidates, threatens, impersonates, or abuses anyone, whether it’s other users of Plex, fictional characters, real life people, or anyone else. This includes slurs, insults, demeaning language, abusive language, sexualized language, doxing, and more.
  • DO NOT use hate speech. Content that attacks, incites violence, discriminates, or shows intolerance towards anyone based on race, age, gender, gender identity, caste, immigration status, ethnicity, national origin, disability, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or other protected attribute has no place in the Plex community.
    • This policy applies to: other users on Plex, real life people, fictional worlds, stories, characters, actors, casting decisions, and more.
  • DO share differing tastes and opinions. This makes for a rich and rewarding community experience. We encourage you to share yours as often as you like, but please be respectful.

Explicit Content

  • DO NOT make suggestive, sexually explicit, aggressive, inappropriate, or otherwise unwelcome statements.
  • DO NOT make excessive references to drugs and/or drug use outside of the context of the movie or show.
  • DO NOT use excessive profanity. Keep it reasonable.

Spam

  • DO NOT create any UGC that provokes other users. This includes deliberately misrepresenting facts or spreading misinformation to provoke reactions.
  • DO NOT create any UGC that disrupts normal on-topic conversation or causes emotional distress.
  • DO NOT share off-platform links in comments, reviews, or other activities. Keep the conversation on Plex. (Profile bio links OK.)
  • DO NOT use AI or chatbots to automate reviews, discussions, or comments.
  • DO NOT create any UGC that spreads rumors, false information, disinformation, or any related manipulation, including viral sloganeering. Whether it is in regards to health, politics, leaks, celebrities, technology, software, etc… we will remove and/or take action against content that shares or spreads those links and pages.
  • DO share your thoughts. Your reactions, opinions, and comments all belong here. Got a hot take or a wild theory? Bring it to the conversation.
  • DO keep things on topic. Keep discussions related to the movie or show being discussed. For example, you wouldn’t talk about today’s weather in a discussion about Terminator 2.

Spoilers

  • DO NOT spoil media for others. Use spoiler tags when sharing plot details or major moments so everyone can enjoy the experience. Reviews and discussions with untagged spoilers may be removed at the discretion of the Moderation Team.
  • DO NOT put spoilers in the title of a discussion. Discussions with spoilers in the title will be removed and you’ll be asked to repost with a spoiler-free title. If necessary, use *** or ____ to hide important details when needed.
  • DO make sure to check the spoiler box when creating a review or discussion that has a spoiler in it.

Violence

  • DO NOT create any content promoting violence, terrorism, extremism, or other messages of intolerance. This includes linking to terrorist or extremist propaganda, even when denouncing such content.

Copyright Infringement

  • DO NOT plagiarize or present someone else’s work as your own. If you quote another source or review, give credit where it’s due.
  • DO NOT share, link, or encourage the act of pirating movies, entertainment, television, music, or other media content on Plex.

Personal Information

  • DO NOT share any personal data, whether yours or anyone else’s.
    • Personal data is defined as: any information that could be linked indirectly or directly to disclose the identity of an individual. Examples include (but are not limited to): phone numbers, full names, email addresses, physical addresses (i.e. doxxing), etc.
  • DO NOT speculate about or spread unverified information regarding the personal relationships, private lives, or off-screen conduct of individuals (including cast, crew, and other public figures).

Avatar Guidelines

Avatars (user profile images) are also subject to our Code of Conduct. In addition to the above, where applicable, avatar images that contain any of the following will be removed:

  • Images that are profane, obscene, fraudulent, or disparaging. This includes, but is not limited to, images that promote, incite, or glorify hatred, harassment, or fetishism towards a group based on their race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, or other protected attribute.
  • Images with nudity, or implied or explicit sexual acts. This includes, but is not limited to, pornography, revenge porn, fetish scenes, pelvic nudity, and bodily functions or fluids.
  • Images with excessive violence, or that promote or glorify violence, crime, self-harm, or obscenity.
  • Images containing any Nazi symbolism or iconography (including, but not limited to, swastikas, flags, or insignia).
  • Offensive or disturbing images or those likely to cause outrage, general disapproval, or negative opinion within the community. This includes, but is not limited to drugs, drug use, animal cruelty, or other.
  • Imagery that constitutes, facilitates or promotes illegal products, services, or activities.
  • Imagery that portrays minors (or persons who appear to be underage) in a manner that is sexually suggestive or otherwise age-inappropriate.
  • Imagery that you do not have the rights to.

Removal and Appeals

Plex reserves the right to remove or take appropriate action against any violation of this Code of Conduct. This includes:

  • Removing content that violates these rules
  • Limiting the ability for your account to interact with others
  • Temporarily suspending or permanently banning your account from accessing Plex

If your content is removed from Plex or we take another moderation action related to your Plex account, you will be notified via email. The email will include information indicating which policy was violated as well as the process for appealing that decision, if you disagree. If you would like to appeal the decision, follow the instructions in the notification email. The appeal can only happen ONCE per moderation decision, so be thoughtful in your response.

At Plex we respect the different laws and content regulation policies in the regions where Plex is available. Our Code of Conduct is a living document that will be updated to reflect and adapt to a changing society
