Plex Community Guidelines

Welcome to Plex! We’re happy you’re here and we want you to be able to share your thoughts, opinions, and reactions in a safe and civil environment. These guidelines below apply to all user generated content on our service, such as reviews, comments, shares, and your community profile. Remember, participating in our community is still subject to our Terms of Service, too, so make sure you've read through those. Failure to abide by any of these Guidelines can result in moderation action against your activities or account, such as having a review being rejected or an account receiving a suspension or ban. (And if you also like to be on our Forums, make sure you familiarize yourself with our Plex Forum guidelines!)

Be A Good Community Member

  • Don’t plagiarize or pass others’ work as your own. If you’re quoting from another work or review, give credit where it’s due.
  • Do not share, link, or encourage the act of pirating movies, entertainment, television, music, or other media content on our site.
  • Share your thoughts! Got a weird theory about what really happened in that one episode? Let’s hear it! The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly - this is the place to leave it.
  • Sometimes, something just rocks your media world and all you want to do is scream “YESSSSSSSSSSSS” at the top of your keyboard lungs. Try adding a short description telling everyone why it had you yelling from the rooftops!
  • Not sure how to write your own review? Comment on someone else’s review and engage with them! Plex Community, it just might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Be respectful

  • Differing tastes and opinions make for a rich, rewarding community experience. We encourage you to share yours as often as you like, but please do so respectfully.
  • Just like you get to have—and share—your opinion, this is a place for others to do the same. We expect all members of this community to be kind and respectful of others’ opinions, even when you disagree.
  • Keep things on topic (i.e. related to movie/show content). If we’re talking Terminator 2, don’t chime in with a hot take on today’s weather.
  • Be aware of context! Just because something was said in a movie or show that was appropriate for a character or story does not necessarily mean it is appropriate for a comment, review, or post.
  • Keep it on Plex. There are lots of resources to add context, flavor, excitement, and expansion to your reviews or comments. But links can be scary and untrustworthy. No off-platform links are accepted at this time and will result in your comment or review being held for moderation. (You can still have a link in your profile bio of course!)

Don’t be a jerk

  • Any form of harassment, intimidation, threats, impersonation, or abuse will not be tolerated. This includes slurs, insults, demeaning language, abusive language, sexualized language, doxing, and more.
  • Any content promoting unlawful violence, terrorism, extremism, or other messages of intolerance are not allowed. This includes linking to terrorist or extremist propaganda, even when denouncing such content.
  • Avoid making suggestive, sexually explicit, aggressive, inappropriate, or otherwise unwelcome statements. We’re here because we want to share how much we love movies and TV. Don’t ruin it for everyone else.
  • Profanity is allowed, but keep it reasonable. Every other word doesn’t have to be an expletive.
  • Avoid excessive references to drugs and/or drug use. This is a sensitive topic but can be discussed respectfully within the context of a particular movie or show.

Don’t discriminate

  • Hate speech has no place in the Plex Community. This means absolutely no content that attacks, incites violence, discriminates, or shows intolerance towards anyone based on race, age, gender, gender identity, caste, immigration status, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or other protected attribute.
    • This policy applies to: other users on Plex, real life people, fictional worlds, stories, characters, actors, casting decisions, and more.

Don’t spread false information or spam

  • Theories are great. Head canons are wonderful. But no one likes being misled. Avoid spreading rumors, false information, or other sources of misinformation.
  • No Spam. This includes, but is not limited to: gibberish, repetitive messages, advertisements for individuals, business, corporations, other entities, sales pitches, referral links, unsolicited self-promotion, buying or selling of real or virtual products, public squabbles, excessive venting, oversharing, or spam.
  • No misinformation, disinformation, or related manipulation, including viral sloganeering. Whether it is in regards to health, politics, leaks, celebrities, technology, software, etc… we will remove and/or take action against content that shares or spreads those links and pages.

Don’t spoil things for others

  • Use the spoiler tag! Not everyone has a chance to see a movie/episode/show the minute it comes out. When sharing potential spoilers, enable the spoiler warning when writing a review. Reviews that forget to do this may be removed at the discretion of the Moderation Team.

Keep personal information to yourself

  • Do not share any personal data, whether yours or anyone else’s.
  • By personal data, we mean: any information that could be traced indirectly or directly to disclose the identity of an individual. Examples include (but are not limited to): phone numbers, full names, email address, physical address (i.e. doxxing), etc.

Avatar Guidelines

Avatars, user profile images, are also subject to our Community Guidelines. In addition to the above, where applicable, avatar images that contain any of the following WILL BE REMOVED:

  • Images that are profane, obscene, fraudulent, or disparaging. This includes, but is not limited to, images that promote, incite, or glorify hatred, harassment, or fetishism towards a group based on their race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, or other protected attribute.
  • Images with nudity, or implied or explicit sexual acts. This includes, but is not limited to, pornography, revenge porn, fetish scenes, pelvic nudity, and bodily functions or fluids.
  • Images with excessive violence, or that promote or glorify violence, crime, self-harm, or obscenity.
  • Images containing any Nazi symbolism or iconography (including, but not limited to, swastikas, flags, or insignia).
  • Offensive or disturbing images or those likely to cause outrage, general disapproval, or negative opinion within the community. This includes, but is not limited to drugs, drug use, animal cruelty, or other.
  • Imagery that constitutes, facilitates or promotes illegal products, services, or activities.
  • Imagery that portrays minors (or persons who appear to be underage) in a manner that is sexually suggestive or otherwise age-inappropriate.

Reporting Information

Get involved!

See a problem? Report it! While Plex uses automated systems to review what is posted on our platform, individuals may also report content they feel violates these rules and they will be reviewed by our moderation team. Plex reserves the right to remove or take appropriate action against any violation of these policies. This includes:

  • Removing content that violates these rules
  • Limiting the ability for your account to interact with others
  • Temporarily suspending or permanently banning your account from accessing Plex

Curate your experience. Whether you have reported content or not, you can mute and/or block users. To learn more about this, click here.

Wrongly Removed?

If your content is removed from Plex or we take another moderation action related to your Plex account, you will be notified via email. The email will include information indicating which policy was violated as well as the process for appealing that decision if you disagree. If you would like to appeal the decision, just respond to the email with your justification. The appeal can only happen ONCE per moderation decision, so be thoughtful in your response.

At Plex we will respect the different laws and content regulation policies in the regions where Plex is available. Plex’s community guidelines are a living document that will be updated to reflect and adapt to a changing society
